If you’re a frequent traveler, chances are you have your packing down to a science. You know exactly what shirt and what socks will go where in your suitcase. But have you given much thought to keeping up your dental health while traveling? Don’t let something this important fall by the wayside. Taking care of our teeth is so often an afterthought— let’s make it something we actively do!
No matter your reason for traveling, it’s important to put thought into your dental health when you’re on the road. Here are some tips and tricks to help you out:
1. Mini Up!
Always have a mini toothbrush, mini floss, and mini mouthwash in your suitcase. Keep a few extra at home so you don’t have to run to the store last minute before a trip.
2. Floss Picks
Bring floss picks for when you’re on the go. These can be easier to carry around than traditional dental floss, and they’re especially helpful for those of us who actively look for excuses not to floss.
3. Stick to a Routine
Pick a routine and stick to it. Maybe that means setting aside 5-10 minutes before bed for taking care of your teeth. Don’t take a break from your routine, because that’s when laziness sets in.
4. Set an Alarm
If you find you can’t remember to brush and floss your teeth without a reminder, set an alarm every day to remind yourself to brush and floss your teeth. You can use your phone, or an actual timer.
5. Find a Local Dentist
Make sure you have the phone number and address of a local dentist just in case something happens when you’re away from home. If you’re staying at a hotel, the concierge can also help you find a local dentist.
