Losing a tooth or two is bearable, but missing more than three can affect the way we speak, eat, and think about ourselves. We’re all obsessed with facial aesthetics, and an unsightly gap in our mouths can significantly dampen our confidence.
Implant-supported bridges are the ideal solution for multiple missing teeth. When it comes to tooth replacement, you deserve the best services. At Stratman Family Dentistry, we offer high-quality bridges. Our dental implants are stable, robust, and guaranteed to look and feel natural.
What is an Implant-Supported Bridge?
As its name insinuates, an implant-supported bridge replaces the gap between missing teeth. The bridge maintains oral health by averting bone deterioration due to tooth loss.
Unlike traditional bridges, an implant-supported bridge doesn’t utilize surrounding teeth for support. That means neighboring healthy teeth don’t need to be ground when restoring the ones missing between them. Instead, dentists fix implant bridges to titanium posts lodged in the jawbones.
How Many Implants Can I Expect to Be Installed?
The number of implants varies depending on the patient’s predicament and the size of the bridge. For three adjacent missing teeth, you need two implants on either side of the bridge.
An implant bridge from Stratman Family Dentistry ensures:
- A long-term solution to dental gaps
- Avoidance of unnecessary tooth shaves
- Stronger jawbones
- The ability to chew food freely
- Beaming smiles
Who is Eligible?
If you have a continuous gap of two or more missing teeth, you’re the ideal candidate. However, the procedure becomes problematic if a patient has:
- Weak jawbones
- Habitual smoking tendencies
- Gum disease
- Tooth decay
- Other oral conditions
Patients with weak or insufficient jawbone tissue must undergo procedures like bone grafting before the implant surgery. Bone grafts take anywhere between 4 to 12 months to fully heal.
Patients with oral conditions must seek treatment before an implant. You’ll also need to change lifestyle habits like smoking, which slows down the healing process after a dental implant.
The Procedure
Once you visit our patient-friendly facility, a dentist will examine and decide whether you’re ready for an implant-supported bridge. If you aren’t ready, we will determine the best preparatory procedure needed before implant surgery.
After a thorough examination, our dentists will make incisions to your gum. Although this process is painful in and of itself, we use sedatives to reduce your discomfort. We will then insert titanium dental implants. Bones and gums around the implants take up to six months to heal.
During the healing period, we will issue you with a temporary bridge.
The next step is generating a mold from your mouth’s impression. From the mold, our experts will create a custom bridge that rhymes with your existing teeth. We will then screw or cement the dental bridge on the implants.
Post-Treatment
We will be with you through the entire journey. Accidents do happen, and in case you chip your bridge, we will be happy to restore it.
